Privacy and Confidentiality

As you become a teenager, we realize that there are some things you don’t feel comfortable discussing in front of your parents.  During your physicals, the provider will ask your parent to step out so that you have a chance to ask questions or discuss more sensitive topics. Please understand that we value your privacy and will not disclose this information to your parent unless there is a safety concern (for example, if you disclose that you’re thinking of hurting yourself).  Likewise, your parents will only have limited MyChart access and won’t be able to see things like sexually transmitted infection test results, so that information will stay confidential as well.

Acne

Did you know that PHCA prescribes acne medications?  This includes topicals (creams, gels) and pills.  Some of our providers even prescribe Accutane (isotretinoin).  Give PHCA a call or send a MyChart message to schedule an appointment with one of our providers.

Birth Control

Teenagers sometimes need birth control for various reasons: acne treatment, regulating heavy/painful/irregular periods, or to prevent pregnancy. PHCA’s providers can prescribe the birth control pill or other forms of birth control, including Nexplanon (a form of birth control that’s inserted under the skin of your upper arm). Nexplanon can be inserted in the office.  If you’re interested in Nexplanon or starting birth control, please reach out to our office by phone or MyChart message.
